Work on the original specification involved considerable consultation with partner organisations in the Alliance and care was taken to express patient experiences and views via Haemophilia Society members of the Alliance.

The new specification complements but does not replace existing clinical guidelines produced by the UK Haemophilia Centre Directors Organisation and the Haemophilia Nurses Association and the physiotherapists as well as the government's official guidelines for health authorities and trusts. The Alliance hopes that the standards set out in the specification will be adopted throughout the NHS.
